Housing Problem Solving:
“It all starts with a conversation….”
What is Housing Problem Solving?
Housing Problem Solving is a process. It is an evidence-based practice that can be applied in a variety of agency and community settings that utilizes strengths-based conversations to explore options to assist individuals experiencing housing insecurity in avoiding homelessness or lengthy stays in shelters or on waitlists.
Who is Housing Problem Solving for?
We believe that most individuals are able resolve their own housing crises with minimal assistance when empowered to do so.
Three Objectives:
Prevention: Someone at risk of becoming immediately homeless can safely remain in place in their current residence or move to another safe place without a longer-term resource from the housing crisis response system.
Diversion: Someone moves from streets or shelter to a safe place to stay with family or friends, into permanent housing, through access to social and community supports that allow them to attain or maintain stable housing.
Rapid Exit: Someone who has recently entered the shelter system and is unlikely to be able to utilize other resources is able to attain stable and permanent housing.
